Elderberry is a deciduous shrub, up to 4 meters. Stems without edges, multi-branched, gray-brown, glabrous. Leaves opposite, odd pinnate; leaflets oval, elliptical or ovate-lanceolate, apex acuminate, base oblique broadly cuneate, margin coarse serrated, glabrous. Inflorescence, coarse serrated edge, glabrous. Inflorescence dense as oval to oblong-ovate; calyx bell-shaped, 5-lobed, lobes tongue; corolla radial, 45-lobed, lobes obovate, pale yellow; stamens 5, inserted on corolla , shorter than the corolla; pistil 1, ovary inferior, style short bright red berries. Flowering from April to May, fruiting period from July to September.
